From the manufacturing method of spiral welded pipe and straight seam welded pipe, the technical key lies in forming and welding. Due to the different molding methods, the raw materials used in the two are naturally different. Spiral welded pipe is made by spiral forming of strip steel coil, ERW straight seam welded pipe is also made of hot rolled strip coil by row forming, and UOE straight seam welded pipe is made of steel plate by U and O forming.

The mechanical properties, material uniformity and thickness tolerance of the steel plate are better than those of the steel coil. Therefore, the quality of UOE straight seam welded pipe is inherently better than spiral welded pipe and ERW straight seam welded pipe. In addition, in welding, submerged arc welding is recognized as a high-quality welding method, and the weld has good toughness, plasticity, uniformity and compactness. Although both the spiral welded pipe and the straight seam welded pipe adopt submerged arc welding, the spiral welded pipe is welded on the curved surface, and the welding conditions are poor, and defects such as misalignment, welding deviation and incomplete penetration are prone to occur.

ERW straight seam welded pipe is resistance welding. Due to the influence of welding speed, temperature, extrusion force and other factors, the quality of the weld has always been an important factor affecting its performance. UOE straight seam welded pipe combines the advantages of submerged arc welding and welding under straight seam conditions, while overcoming the shortcomings of both.

1. Spiral welded pipes can produce large diameter and long pipes, but UOE and ERW straight seam welded pipes cannot.
